Can a Donated Vehicle Be Recycled in Brooklyn?

Brooklyn Car Donation Tips

Yes. When you donate a vehicle to us in Brooklyn, recycling is one possible outcome. We sell donated vehicles at auction or recycle them for new materials, and proceeds from either route benefit charities partnered with Troops Relief Fund. Recycling is an alternative to an auction sale, rather than the destination for every donated vehicle.

If you have an unused car and wonder whether donation can still serve a purpose beyond putting it back on the road, that distinction matters. A donated vehicle can support our work through the sale of recycled automotive materials as well as through an auction.

Recycling and auction sales are different outcomes

An auction offers the donated vehicle for sale. Recycling takes a different route: the vehicle becomes a source of materials rather than being sold as a whole vehicle at auction. Both are part of how we raise funds through vehicle donations.

For you as a donor, the important connection is where the proceeds go. Whether your donation is auctioned or recycled for new materials, the proceeds benefit our partner charities. You do not need to think of recycling as separate from the charitable purpose of your donation.

Can you donate a vehicle that does not run?

We accept cars, trucks and motorcycles, including vehicles that do not run. A nonrunning vehicle is worth discussing with us rather than ruling it out yourself. Acceptance of a nonrunning vehicle and its eventual recycling are two different questions; recycling remains one possible outcome alongside an auction sale.

When you contact us, tell us what kind of vehicle you have and whether it runs. You can also describe where it is parked and ask any questions you have about pickup. These details give us a useful starting point for arranging your donation.

What should you do before getting started?

You can keep your first conversation simple. Consider writing down a few details and questions so you have them handy:

  • The type of vehicle you would like to donate and its current running condition.
  • Its Brooklyn pickup location and any access details you want to discuss.
  • Times that would work well for your schedule.
  • Your questions about auction sales, recycling or the donation process.

We arrange vehicle pickup and towing at no cost to you, at a convenient time and location arranged with you. You can begin by phone or through our online donation form. After an online donation request, we contact you within about 24 hours to arrange pickup.

Put your unused vehicle toward military support

Our work includes helping veterans with assistance dogs, sending packages to troops serving overseas and supporting local Wounded Warrior Project efforts. Vehicle donations help raise funds for the charities we partner with, including when recycling is the route taken.
